What’s The Best Way To Save Time, Money and Stay Out Of Pain? Prevention!
Compassionate Dentistry has a simple philosophy for our Grants Pass community:
- Preventing dental disease is always easier than treating it.
- Prevention saves our patients time, money, and keeps them out of pain.
- Education is empowering, and an empowered patient will work hard to stay healthy.
We love to see our patients, but we don’t enjoy seeing them in pain or stressing about how much dental treatment might cost. The foundation for preventing oral disease starts at home with good habits like brushing and flossing every day so that bacteria are removed from the tooth surface. Habits are formed early by children, so it is important that prevention be a family undertaking. You are the most important person when it comes to your dental health!
Early detection is the next step, because it prevents disease from going further. When a problem is identified early, it can usually be addressed simply and inexpensively. Dr. Sara Riechers and her Grants Pass dental team use advanced digital imaging technology to create high-resolution radiographs that allow them to detect potential problems while using lower radiation than traditional film x-rays. Together, dental imaging and a thorough exam by Dr. Riechers yield timely detection and diagnosis of disease before it causes more damage, tooth loss, or pain.
Afraid of even simple exams or cleanings? We have several options and techniques for working with dental anxiety.
Maintenance of oral health is essential. Our gentle, experienced hygienist will keep you comfortable while she cleans your teeth. Regular cleanings remove the layer of bacteria (plaque) that hardens into tartar (calculus), which cannot be removed by brushing alone. Calculus provides a surface for bacteria to grow on, so its removal can prevent disease.
Our dental hygienist uses techniques such as ultrasonic scaling, hand scaling, and polishing to clean your teeth. She will also examine the health of your gum tissue. Removal of plaque and calculus helps to prevent cavities, further calculus build-up, and gum disease such as gingivitis (inflammation of gums) and periodontitis (bone loss). While brushing and flossing are crucial for oral health, only a professional dental cleaning will remove calculus.
During your cleaning and exam, Dr. Riechers and the rest of our team will work hard to make sure you are comfortable and that all of your questions are answered. We want to make sure you are informed about the status of your family’s oral health and understand all of your options. Dental education is a priority for our office. The more our patients understand, the more we earn their trust and open communication, and the better we can all work together to prevent dental disease.
Despite our best intentions, life happens. Sometimes even the most avid brusher and flosser will experience trauma, oral disease, or pain. Here at Compassionate Dentistry, we understand that preventing dental problems is not always possible, so we have a full suite of dental treatment options that we can use to match your personal, medical, and financial situation. There are many affordable and aesthetic options for restoring damaged teeth or replacing missing teeth.
